Samphran Crocodile Farm and Elephant Show

Tour Fee:                      750 Baht (500 for the Crocodile Farm + 250 Baht for the Floating Market)
Duration:                       Full Day Tour
Attraction & Sites:         Damuern Saduak Floating Market, Free Lunch at a Floating Restaurant and Samphran Elephant Grounds and Crocodile Farm.

Like my tour at the Ayutthaya and Bang Pa-InSummer Palace the other day, I was directed by our guide at the floating market to another vehicle – a Nissan Sentra latest model. There were 5 of us inside the car including the driver, a mother and daughter from Korea and Emily from Czech Republic. And Yes, I instantly became friends with Emily since we have a lot in common. By a lot, I mean – we have the same waist line and she was fun to talk with.

Before going to Samphran Elephant Grounds and Crocodile Farm, our driver took us first to a floating restaurant (too much floating for the day, LOL) somewhere around Bangkok. The ambience was good and the food was satisfying. But the conversation with Emily was the most memorable during that lunch. She was a college student at Czech and currently on break to tour around Thailand for a month.

After eating lunch we stayed there for some time to rest and chat more. We departed for Samphran Elephant Grounds and Crocodile Farm at exactly 1:00 PM and arrived at the zoo 10 minutes later. Upon arriving at the zoo, we were directed to the Elephant Show and the receptionist told us the show was about to start. When I arrived at the mini stadium there was a bunch of cute and adorable kindergarten kids dancing and singing at their seats. 15 minutes later, the show finally started.

The first part of the show was a magic presentation from “Mr. Dumb and Dumber”. At my age, I still enjoyed watching their act.

After the magic show is an educational presentation about the elephants and how they stayed dependable friends and coworker of the Thais during the early days. It was also re-enacted how the elephants help the Thais during tribal conflicts and war.

The most interesting part of the Elephant show was when they played football and dance to the tune of “Gangnam Style”:

The elephant show ended with an offer to feed the elephants for 20 Baht. The zoo personnel will give you something to feed the elephants, to which the kids and kids at heart enjoyed doing. As for me, I immediately went to the Crocodile Farm to secure the best viewing place for the show.

The show started with two zoo personnel properly positioning the crocodiles. They opened the mouth of the crocodile and tried to put their arms inside it. They were not satisfied with only their arms on it, so they also tried to put their heads inside the crocodile’s mouth.

The act was really dangerous and at the same time heart stopping for those watching the show. I guess they were really trained to do such acts. The suspenseful background music added to the thrill and the audiences’ shouts filled the stage as the zoo personnel performed their acts. The show lasted for 30 minutes.

After the crocodile show, I visited the surrounding places of the zoo. I came by a mother elephant that recently gave birth to a baby elephant. The little elephant was really cute and it’s fascinating to watch how the baby elephant imitates whatever her mother does.

At exactly 4:00 PM, I bade goodbye to the zoo, like a kid was saying goodbye to his favorite toy! Hahaha. The elephant show will really touch your heart just by merely looking at the cute and adorable elephants while the crocodile show will give you a heart attack for the stunts professionally prepared by the zoo personnel. Overall it was a worth it 750-Baht-tour!
